LOTR is a story about the big picture though, and it's not easy to point to a main character. Everyone is important. Merry and Pippin feel integral to LOTR in a way that side characters just don't in the MCU. They're different kinds of stories. Man I'm heartbroken that I didn't get to see LOTR in theatres.
